Background Application and VIRTUS Link
Our Parish Child Protection Liaison is Connie Gilligan. She oversees the background compliance of our volunteers. Anyone volunteering or working with children must be compliant through the Arlington Diocese, which requires a background application and the VIRTUS training course "Protecting God's Children."
Instructions for Applicants
Background applications must be completed and cleared prior to volunteering. Once the background check is cleared, you will be allowed to volunteer in a temporary status for 45 days to allow you time to complete your VIRTUS training. Time is of the essence!
Please click on the link below to complete the online background check application. Select the 'VOLUNTEER' box. For Location, choose St. Theresa School, and for Position choose, Volunteer (general).

Once submitted, you will receive an email asking you to open up the document and sign it. If it looks good, Connie will sign off on it and call you to set up a day and time to come see her in the Religious Ed Office to sign the VA Department of Social Services form.
After Connie verifies your background check is cleared, you will receive a link from the Office of Child Protection to register for the VIRTUS training. You must register and complete the course within 45 days. After that time, you will not be allowed to volunteer in any capacity and will have to contact the Arlington Diocese Office of Child Protection at 703-841-3847 for further instructions.
