Welcome to the Science Lab!
Kindergarten- Welcome to the Lab Kindgergarten! Our first unit of study is Beginning Explorations.
During this Core Experience, students will perform activities and conduct experiments designed to formally introduce students to the process of scientific investigation, common science tools, and properties of objects. Through their explorations they will come to a better understanding of color, size, shape, texture and function as properties of objects. In addition they will discover how observation, measurement, testing, and data analysis serve as the core of scientific investigation.

Grade 1- Current Unit: Properties of Solids and Liquids- During this CELL, students will conduct several investigations focused on exploring the properties of solids and liquids. Students will investigate how solids and liquids are similar and how they are unique. Students will also perform experiments designed to increase their comprehension of the term property. As they perform these investigations, students will develop an understanding of the characteristics that define these two states of matter. Through these investigations, students will develop both their observational skills and their understanding of properties, solids, and liquids.Click on the link for more information LabLearner Grade 1
Grade 2- Current Unit: Water Cycle and Its Phases-During this CELL, students will conduct several investigations focused on the process of the water cycle and how that process can be polluted by contaminants. Through experimentation and observation, students will explore the four phases of the water cycle – evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection – and investigate how the effects of pollution relate to their entrance into the water cycle.Click on the link for more information LabLearner Grade 2
Grade 3- Current Unit: The Human Body- During this CELL, students will conduct several investigations focused on six systems of the human body: nervous, skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, and digestive. By conducting experiments and investigating different variables, students will begin to draw conclusions concerning the relationship between each system and its parts, as well as, the interrelationship between all systems of the human body.Click on the link for more information LabLearner Grade 3
Grade 4- Current Unit: Forms of Energy - During this CELL, students will conduct several investigations focused on promoting understanding of different types and forms of energy. By conducting experiments, investigating different variables, and examining energy conversions, students will begin to draw conclusions concerning the relationship between the potential and kinetic energy and the Law of Conservation of Energy. Grade 5- Current Unit: Investigating Heat- This CELL explores heat, temperature, and the transfer of heat through conduction, convection, and radiation. Students will perform investigations focused on the relationship between kinetic energy and temperature, and the relationship of heat to kinetic energy and temperature. Through the processes of experimentation and summarization, students will learn to use their results to create rules to explain these relationships.
